All About Ms. Wagner
I am very excited to begin my second year teaching at Hall Middle School. I grew up nearby in Mill Valley and attended the local public schools from preschool through high school. I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and received my teaching credential and Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of San Francisco. I am eager to change the stereotype of how a typical math classroom is perceived. I want the learners in my classroom to become successful in mathematics and enjoy learning mathematics.
Traditionally math teachers do a lot of explaining and talking, but I want to do a lot of questioning and listening. Most math teachers also traditionally think about teaching the curriculum, but I want to think about teaching the learner. Mathematics in this classroom will not be about memorizing formulas and rules, being told procedures for solving problems, and completing “drill-and-kill” worksheets involving calculations. Students instead will be working like mathematicians do: posing problems, making guesses and conjectures, exploring with and refining ideas, and discussing ideas with others. Students will be working in teams to extend problems into new directions and to create opportunities for valuable discussion.
I look forward to getting to know and working with your learner every day in my classroom. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.
